Ingredients
– 2 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 1/2 cups sugar
– 1/2 cup shortening
– 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
– 1/2 cup water
– 1 tsp baking soda
– 1 tsp ground cinnamon
– 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
– 1/2 tsp salt
– 1/2 cup chopped nuts
– 1/2 cup raisins
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch pan.
2. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, shortening, applesauce, water, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
3. Stir in nuts and raisins.
4. Pour batter into the pan and bake for 45-50 minutes.
5. Cool completely before serving.
Notes
– Optional: Top with caramel glaze or cream cheese frosting.
– Store at room temperature for 2–3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
