- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Mix in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
- Pour the batter into a greased cake pan.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cool before frosting.
Notes
- For an extra indulgent cake, add chocolate ganache on top.
- Let the cake cool completely before frosting to prevent melting.
