- 1 box yellow cake mix
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup pecans, chopped
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch cake pan.
- Prepare the cake mix according to package instructions, then pour into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool for 15 minutes, then poke holes across the top using a fork.
- In a saucepan, combine sweetened condensed milk, brown sugar, butter and cook over medium heat until melted and combined.
- Pour the mixture over the cake, ensuring it gets into the holes.
- Refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours.
- Before serving, whip the heavy cream and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form, then spread over the top of the cake.
- Garnish with chopped pecans.
Notes
- For best flavor, make the cake a day ahead and let it sit overnight.
- Drizzle with additional caramel sauce if desired.
