Description

These candied yams are sweet, tender, and packed full of flavor, making them the perfect addition to any meal.


Ingredients

  • 4 medium sweet potatoes
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel and slice the sweet potatoes into rounds.
  3. In a large pan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  4. Add the brown sugar, water, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Stir until combined.
  5. Add the sweet potatoes to the pan and coat them in the syrup.
  6. Transfer the sweet potatoes to a baking dish and pour the remaining syrup over the top.
  7. Bake for 45 minutes, basting occasionally with the syrup, until tender.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add mini marshmallows on top during the last 10 minutes of baking.
  • These yams pair well with ham and turkey.
