A delicious and indulgent caramel butterscotch layer cake that is perfect for any occasion.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup caramel sauce
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture.
- Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
- Once cooled, layer the cakes with caramel sauce between each layer and cover the entire cake with more caramel sauce.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use dark brown sugar instead of light brown sugar.
- Allow the cake to chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour before serving for better slicing.
