Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in the vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture.
  7. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  10. Once cooled, layer the cakes with caramel sauce between each layer and cover the entire cake with more caramel sauce.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use dark brown sugar instead of light brown sugar.
  • Allow the cake to chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour before serving for better slicing.
