- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla, and mix until well combined.
- Gradually stir in boiling water until the batter is smooth.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
- Once done, let the cakes cool for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
- For the buttercream, beat together softened butter and powdered sugar until fluffy, then add vanilla and milk to achieve desired consistency.
- Once cooled, frost the top of one cake layer and stack the second layer on top, frosting the top and sides.
Notes
- For an extra chocolatey taste, add chocolate chips to the batter.
- Let the cake cool completely before frosting to avoid melting the buttercream.
