Description

Classic French Beef Bourguignon in Red Wine Sauce is a rich and flavorful dish featuring tender beef cooked slowly in a delicious red wine sauce with the addition of turkey bacon for a lighter twist.


Ingredients

  • 2 pounds beef chuck, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 4 slices turkey bacon, chopped
  • 2 cups red wine
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large Dutch oven, cook the turkey bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pot, brown the beef pieces on all sides.
  4. Add the carrots, onion, and garlic, and cook for a few minutes until softened.
  5. Stir in the tomato paste, thyme, and bay leaf.
  6. Pour in the red wine and beef broth, bringing it to a simmer.
  7. Return the turkey bacon to the pot.
  8. Cover and place in the oven. Cook for 2-3 hours until the beef is tender.
  9. Season with salt and pepper before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use a full-bodied red wine.
  • Serve with crusty bread or mashed potatoes.
