Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine flour and butter until crumbly.
  3. Add sour cream and mix until dough forms.
  4. Divide dough into 4 pieces, roll each out, and place on baking sheets.
  5. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Allow the layers to cool completely.
  7. For the filling, whisk eggs and sugar until pale, then add milk and heat over medium until thickened.
  8. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla, and let cool.
  9. Whip heavy cream and fold into cooled mixture.
  10. Layer the pastry with the filling, repeating until all layers are used.
  11. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours before serving.
