A delicious and hearty stew with a rich onion flavor topped with cheesy bread.
Ingredients

- 2 pounds beef chuck, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 4 cups onions, thinly sliced
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 cup dry white wine
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 teaspoons dried thyme
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 baguette, sliced
- 2 cups shredded Gruyere cheese
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add onions and cook until caramelized, about 20 minutes.
- Add beef and brown on all sides.
- Stir in flour, thyme, salt, and pepper.
- Add wine and broth, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours.
- During the last 15 minutes, preheat oven to 350°F.
- Place sliced baguette on a baking sheet and top with Gruyere cheese.
- Bake until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Serve stew in bowls, topped with cheesy bread.
Notes
- For a thicker stew, add more flour.
- Pair with a side salad for a complete meal.
