Description

A hearty and flavorful French Onion Beef Stew topped with cheesy turkey bacon bread for a delicious twist.


Ingredients

  • 2 pounds beef chuck, cut into cubes
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 4 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup white wine
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Gruyere or Swiss)
  • 8 slices turkey bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 loaf crusty bread, sliced

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onions and cook until caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
  2. Add garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper, then stir in the beef and brown on all sides.
  3. Pour in the wine and scrape the bottom of the pot. Add beef broth and bring to a simmer.
  4. Cover and cook for 2-3 hours until beef is tender.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F. Arrange bread slices on top of the stew, sprinkle with cheese and turkey bacon.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes until cheese is bubbly and bread is toasted.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use homemade beef broth.
  • Feel free to add vegetables like carrots and potatoes.
