- 1 large egg
- 1 cup unsulfured molasses
- 1 cup hot water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat together the brown sugar and butter until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and molasses, and mix until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with hot water, until well mixed.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For extra flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the batter.
- This cake can be served warm or at room temperature.
