Instructions

  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat together the brown sugar and butter until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the egg and molasses, and mix until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with hot water, until well mixed.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
