Description

A delicious and healthy gumbo greens recipe featuring turkey bacon and cabbage.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound turkey bacon
  • 2 cups gumbo greens
  • 1 small head of cabbage, chopped
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add turkey bacon and cook until crispy.
  2. Remove bacon and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pot.
  3. Add onion and garlic to the pot, sauté until translucent.
  4. Add chopped cabbage and gumbo greens, stirring until wilted.
  5. Pour in chicken broth and bring to a simmer, then add cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
  6. Return turkey bacon to the pot and simmer for 30 minutes.

Notes

  • This dish can be made with other leafy greens if gumbo greens are unavailable.
  • Feel free to adjust the spice level to your taste.
