Ingredients

- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon lemon zest
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

- 3 egg whites
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat butter and granulated sugar until fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, then mix in lemon juice and zest.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients.
- Pour the batter into the prepared dish.
- In a separate bowl, whip egg whites with cream of tartar until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add powdered sugar and whip until stiff peaks form.
- Spread meringue over the batter and bake for 20-25 minutes.
- Let cool before slicing into bars.
