A hearty and simplified take on traditional cabbage rolls—this casserole combines ground beef, cabbage, rice, and tomato sauce into a one-pan oven-baked meal the whole family will love.
Ingredients
– 2 lbs ground beef
– 3½ lbs chopped cabbage
– 1 (29 oz) can tomato sauce
– 1 cup chopped onion
– 1 cup uncooked white rice
– 1 tsp salt
– 2 (14 oz) cans beef broth
– Optional: 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Brown ground beef; drain grease.
3. In a bowl, combine beef, cabbage, sauce, onion, rice, and salt.
4. Transfer to a 9×13″ dish, pour broth over, and cover with foil.
5. Bake for 1 hour.
6. Stir, cover, and bake for 20–30 minutes.
7. If using cheese, uncover during last 5–10 mins to melt.
8. Let rest 5–10 minutes before serving.
Notes
– Pre-chopping the cabbage evenly ensures uniform cooking.
– For a crispy topping, broil for a few minutes before serving.
– Can be made ahead and refrigerated before baking.
